You may consider having the upper denture checked to see if it positioned properly. Sometimes dentures can be made in a position that does not allow the lips to close resulting in excess saliva. If swallowing is not impaired, you should be able to clear your mouth and the amount of saliva will generally decrease. If this does not happen, you should see your dentist or prosthodontist to correct the problem. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. Question:  how do you know you are getting long lasting dentures? how much could they cost? What should they be made of? THis next set will be my 6th since 1976. Is that too often?

Your jawbone will shrink and change after tooth removal and the fit of your dentures will change in time, so a general rule of thumb is to replace your dentures every seven years. The timeline you mentioned is on target. The cost of dentures varies based on your location. Question:  I am confused. I was told to brush my dentures with toothpaste but everything I read says not to.So is it ok or not??? Also while not at home can you brush your dentures without taking them out until you get home that night?

Mar 21, 2011 5:33 pm

Generally you should not use toothpaste to clean your dentures. Several over-the-counter products are available to clean dentures, but are not suggested because they are abrasive. The best way to clean your dentures is by using warm water and liquid soap with a denture brush. Brushing dentures in the mouth is not effective and they should be removed from the mouth for proper cleaning.

Question:  how much will I pay for dentuers

Denture fees vary widely based on location. The best way to determine fees for service is to visit with your dentist or prosthodontist and discuss the care you may need. You may also contact your state or local dental society to find out if the organization has any resources for the public related to the cost of dental services.
