Question:  what is the cost of standard dentures

Mar 21, 2011 5:15 pm

Denture fees vary widely based on location. The best way to determine fees for service is to visit with your dentist or prosthodontist and discuss the care you may need. You may also contact your state or local dental society to find out if the organization has any resources for the public related to the cost of dental services. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. To locate a prosthodontist near you visit www.gotoapro.org.

Question:  is there a differance between the fit of emergancy dentures and perment ones?

Mar 21, 2011 5:13 pm

Dentures placed at the time of tooth removal called "immediate dentures" or "emergent dentures" will fit differently in time and need to be adjusted several times within the course of a year. Permanent dentures also may change fit, but if placed longer after tooth removal, they will fit better given the same period of time.

Question:  I just got a upper plate and have teeth on the bottom. I have what is called an overbite I guess and my bottom teeth hit the inside of my plate and I can't eat or chew. How can this be adjusted.

Mar 21, 2011 5:01 pm

This is a difficult problem to solve. Occasionally, changing the bite of dentures with lower natural teeth can be done by rearranging the upper teeth with a new set of upper dentures. Another option is to create a new bite by changing the lower teeth position with orthodontics. If the remaining lower teeth are not healthy, removal may be necessary, replacing them with dentures as well. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. Question:  Can having your teeth pulled cause you to feel sick 3 or 4 days after?

Mar 21, 2011 4:59 pm

Feeling sick after teeth are pulled is not uncommon. The source of some infections of the mouth are frequently linked to decayed and diseased teeth, which even after removal can cause feelings of being sick. The effect of losing teeth also can create a serious concern for some patients making them feel less "themselves." Be sure you consult your dentist or prosthodontist or medical provider to monitor your physical symptoms as necessary.

Question:  roofless upper denture. how good are they?

Mar 21, 2011 4:58 pm

Roofless or "palate-less" upper dentures are unstable in the way they fit and may change in time because of the way the upper jaws change after tooth removal. The stability created by having a roof or "palate" helps to create the suction needed for an upper denture. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. To locate a prosthodontist near you visit www.gotoapro.org.
