Question:  can you have teeth pull out and dentures put in on the same day or in the same week

Mar 18, 2011 2:24 pm

Yes, it is possible to have your teeth removed and dentures put in the same day. The dentures are called immediate dentures and you should talk to your dentist or prosthodontist to see if that treatment is the best for your mouth. A prosthodontist is a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. To locate the two prosthodontists and others near you, visit www.gotoapro.org.

Question:  i have had dentures for only a month the tops fix good the bottoms come loose when eating is there anything i can do my dentis said i might need inpants in the lowers ones

Mar 18, 2011 2:23 pm

Lower dentures do not usually fit as well as the upper ones. Have your dentist or prosthodontist re-evaluate the bite of your new teeth to be sure they mesh properly. Then, give the teeth a little time to get used to using your tongue and cheek muscles to assist in stabilizing the dentures. Finally, if this does not improve, consider placing about three pencil-eraser size increments of a paste type of denture adhesive on the denture, seat it in your mouth and bite firmly. Remove any excess denture adhesive that oozes out from the dentures. If the adhesive does not help, you may be a candidate for dental implants. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures, as well as dental implants. To locate a prosthodontist near you visit www.gotoapro.org.

Question:  I asked about the best ultrasonic and/or UV machines to clean my dentures, and what professional products might be available for whitening, as nothing else has worked. I just want to clarify: I am NOT trying to get them whiter than they originally were, I know that's not possible. I am trying to RETURN them to the original very white color that they were when I got them.

Mar 18, 2011 2:21 pm

Immersion type ultrasonic cleaners provide the best option for cleaning your dentures. UV works well, but must have direct "line-of-sight" contact with all parts of the denture base. Your dentist or prosthodontist should professionally clean your dentures once a year. Your dentist can assist you with identifying the home care products that best meet your needs for denture cleaning. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. To locate a prosthodontist near you visit www.gotoapro.org.

Question:  what hould I do about mouth sores created by the denture ?

Mar 18, 2011 2:03 pm

Mouth sores can result from a poorly fitting denture, from a sensitivity to the materials used in making the denture, or from the bite not being adjusted properly. These sores can evolve into a very damaging oral condition if left untreated. You should immediately see your dentist or seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in the care and maintenance of dentures. To locate a prosthodontist near you visit www.gotoapro.org.
