Question:  Do you have any information on a denture soft reline product called PermaSoft II? Does it work? Is it harmful? Any information you have on this product would be appreciated.

Mar 10, 2011 11:31 am

Your dentist or prosthodontist would be your best resource for information about PermaSoft II. While we are not able to offer advice about the specific product you mentioned, many patients do benefit from a laboratory processed soft liner. Patients who have worn dentures for a long time and have a very small ridge often use one of these liners to cushion the denture. Question:  I knock out my two front bottom teeth. Is there a way to put them and stay. My dentist said I needed a Bridge and was hoping there is away to put these two front teeth back in without having to get a expensive Bridge.

Mar 10, 2011 11:30 am

Replacing missing teeth, especially front teeth, is challenging. The goal is for the teeth to work well and look natural. A fixed bridge or dental implants will give you the best result, but each of these methods is expensive. You should discuss these options with your dentist or consider consulting a prosthodontist, a dentist with three years of training beyond dental school who specializes in bridges and implants. Question:  can new dentures after tooth extraction cause severe headache with vomiting?

Mar 10, 2011 11:27 am

Some nausea may occur If the dentures are placed the same day the teeth are removed. This is typically because of blood being swallowed or may be caused by a reaction to pain medicine. Usually, the dentures themselves will not cause vomiting or headaches. If the fit of your dentures is not comfortable, you may develop headaches and/or some soreness in your jaw joint. For any of these problems you should return to the dentist or prosthodontist who made your dentures.

Question:  I had jaw surgery when I was 16v (the rebuilt my jaw due to a fall that stunted the growth)and I have plastic pieces of jaw and wire will that fall apart when my bottom teeth are removed and I loose bone?

Mar 10, 2011 11:26 am

A small amount of bone actually holds your teeth and losing your teeth usually does not change the jawbone itself. Your history of a broken jaw does add complications. Most of the time the plastic pieces and wire placed in your jaw at the time of surgery act like a splint to hold the bone in place as it heals. If many years have passed since your surgery, the jaw itself should be solid. To avoid problems you would be wise to consult an oral surgeon, a specialist in teeth removal, for complete evaluation of your jaw.

Question:  what can be put on false teeth to prevent food from sticking

Mar 10, 2011 11:25 am

Most denture teeth are made of plastic and may be scratched if you clean your dentures with abrasive cleaners; even using toothpaste you can scratch the surface. So, be careful to only use cleansers designed for dentures. If your dentures are older or if they are scratched, ask your dentist or prosthodontist to polish them to reduce the scratches. Another tip is to drink plenty of fluids while you are eating to help “flush” the food particles off of the dentures and keep your mouth moist.
