Question:  i just chip a front tooth on my dentures how can i get that fixed today

Feb 22, 2011 5:06 pm

The best solution is to return to the dentist or prosthodontist who made your dentures and have the broken tooth repaired professionally. It may seem easy to fix, but it is important that the repair is done correctly to prevent problems with the appearance and with your chewing. The entire tooth may need to be replaced, and you will get the best resulting matching the color and shape if the tooth is replaced by a professional. Prosthodontists are dentists who specialize in the restoration and replacement of teeth and are more likely to have the materials and skills needed to repair or replace the chipped denture tooth. Question:  i have been wearing dentures since i was 20 i am 63 now and never had any problems till now. i had new dentures made and had 2 implants done and 1 year after this was done i was put under a lot of stress from my job and started chewing on my dentures causing my mouth to swell and be really sore the stress is still there and so is the soreness and swelling 1 year latter, what can i do? i have seen my dentist who sent me to a denture specielist, nether can help.

Feb 22, 2011 5:05 pm

The swelling can be a result of the dentures not fitting properly, the “bite” being incorrect, an infection of the soft tissues of the mouth caused by bacteria and fungi, or an infection around the dental implants. Proper care as soon as possible should resolve any of these issues. You may want to seek the care of a prosthodontist, a dentist with three additional years of training beyond dental school, who specializes in denture and dental implant therapy. Question:  how do I glue a tooth back on to my upper plate

Feb 22, 2011 5:04 pm

It seems like a simple thing to fix, especially if you still have the tooth, but it is really tricky to get the tooth back in the right place. If the tooth is even a little bit out of place it can change the appearance of your smile and your ability to chew. The best solution is to return to the dentist or prosthodontist who made your dentures and have the broken tooth replaced in your denture by a professional. Prosthodontists are dentists who specialize in the restoration and replacement of teeth and are more likely to have the materials and skills needed to repair or replace the chipped denture tooth. Question:  i have soft liners i would like to know what can i clean them wit

Feb 22, 2011 5:03 pm

You should use a dish washing liquid and a special denture brush to clean your dentures by hand every day. But do not “scrub” the surface of your soft liner; gently clean them with the soap and a washcloth. After rinsing them thoroughly, soak your dentures in water-based cleaning solution overnight. Do not use bleach on your dentures unless your dentist or prosthodontist gives you special instructions.

Question:  On dec. 7th all of my teeth had to be removed. I am now looking into having dentures put in. The problem is that the surgeon had to remove some bone and file the bottom jaw and gum bone. He said that it would be hard to put dentures in the bottom. What kind of trouble am i looking at?

Feb 22, 2011 5:02 pm

Even though it is necessary to have jaw bone reshaped after removal of teeth, this does not always cause difficulty with wearing dentures. Sometimes, the amount of jaw bone that remains is enough to support dentures, but having enough jaw bone height does not allow them to be retained well. Because of this, options in retaining the dentures can include the use of dental implants or other special care. A specialist called a prosthodontist can also help with this type of care. Question:  can you use regular toothpaste on dentures

Feb 22, 2011 4:59 pm

No, toothpastes are designed to be used on teeth, and they often contain materials and chemicals that help whiten and strengthen teeth, but may harm dentures, which are made of a very durable plastic. Even though the plastic is strong, it is not as strong as the enamel of teeth and may be scratched by using toothpaste to clean your dentures. You should use a dish washing liquid and a special denture brush to clean your dentures by hand every day. After rinsing them thoroughly, soak your dentures in water-based cleaning solution overnight. Do not use bleach on your dentures unless your dentist or prosthodontist gives you special instructions.
