Reply to Getting dentures

Posted: January 27, 2011 7:43 am

My husband just got his uppers yesterday.  He has lost the majority of his teeth due to chemo/radiation 2+ years ago.

What we did is we had all the teeth pulled except for his front teeth.  Then a few weeks after those teeth were pulled, we went back in for a mold to be made.  Then 2 weeks later we went back in and had the front uppers removed and left with his upper dentures.  In March, we will have his lower front teeth removed and get his lower dentures.

He is fairing pretty well.  It is so nice to see teeth in him.  He hasn't eaten much since then and is having a bit of trouble swallowing but I believe they are going to adjust his dentures today at his 24 hour check up.  Then we see the dentist again in 1 week for another check out.

I think every place does things different.  I believe his mother went in to the dentist in the morning and had her teeth pulled and then went back that afternoon and got her dentures.  Not sure if due to her mothers age if she got more of a temporary one and since we are young, that my husband got his pernament one right away.  Not sure.

But I wanted to chime in and let you know how it is going.
