I just had all my upper teeth extracted on 1/12 and my immediate dentures put in too, and up until yesterday, had a bulge in the upper back left that would kick them out of place, the plate went to far back and was 'thick', I called the dentist yesterday a.m. and he saw me in the afternoon and made adjustments on site, he is able to do that, and low and behold, I was in the car 30 min. later and singing my brains out and sooo much more comfortable and confident. My experience so far is that it is communication w/your dentist and make as many adj as you have to until you are comfy. It is best to leave them in ALL the time, only take them out to rinse and keep your gum area clean. If you take them out for any extended amt of time, your gums do not 'form' to the dentures. Your gums are soft and will mold themselves to the plate, you may have to keep going back for adjustments. But keep your gums clean and dentures in, no matter WHAT the pain. I had a problem chewing, but now, it is just getting use to where to bite, etc. I eat before my hubby gets home so I can concentrate and learn. And it is a learning curve. Don't be impatient with yourself. Take your time and it will come together for you. I have gone so far as calling from my cell to my house phone and leaving messages to hear my own voice! LOl...everyone is different, but the gums will heal within the 1st three months quickly, then after that they will slow down a little, so it isn't an 'overnight' healing process. My gums actually are nice and pink and look great (although I don't like looking at myself without my teeth in so I have learned to take them out and put them in without a mirror...LOL talk about vain huh?)....call your dentist WHENEVER you feel and adjustment is needed, they should make time for you when you call. And as far as adhesive goes, I have done quite alot of research on adhesives and suggest you do the same ASAP to see the feedbacks on different kinds, fixodent v.s. the others and seabond, etc. I am not using any nor do I plan to anyday soon as, again, I will call my dentist if they get too loose, you may have to have a soft or hard align.....but PLEASE PLEASE do the searches online for Denture adhesives! Much success to you...don't loose patience and KEEP THEM IN! ;O)...enjoy your smile, I have taken pics and LOVE looking in the mirror now...I feel sooo much better and I hope you do too....!
