The short answer is yes. It takes time for your mouth to get accustomed to having dentures in there. The lower is always more troublesome than the upper. Over time your mouth muscles will get trained to keep the denture seated on your gums. Right now with all of the healing you are doing, your gums are changing every day. Make sure your dentures are firmly seated on your gums before attempting to chew and make sure you try to distribute food evenly on both sides, place the food as far back on your teeth as you can and work them in a small grinding motion, keep a glass of water handy and take a sip when you have food in your mouth, it will help soften the food and make chewing easier.
Less adhesive works better than more typically. With new dentures especially immediates the fit will be less than perfect for some time. I kept trying different foods and really indulging in those I could master and then kept going back to those that were not working out so well. Frustrating to say the least but don't give up.
