I finally deceided to get new dentures, after years of root canals, and fractured teeth. Problem is i am terrifed of the whole process thing. I will be getting all my teeth removed and getting a upper and lower full denture. I am 55 years old and full of doubts. Can any one help with experiences! I would really appreciate it, as i am going in next week to start with the impressions. Thank you all!

The reassurance is talking with someone who has dentures. If you do not know anyone personally, talk to your close friends and family and see if they know someone. It is a big step to take and you have to know that getting used to dentures takes time, if you maintain a positive outlook it will go a lot smoother. Having someone to talk to about what you are feeling both physically and emotionally will also help. Try to get in writing a plan from the dentist outlining the time line, the costs and what you will be getting for your money. Also find out what kind of access you will have to the dentist should have pain and discomfort. Some limit the patient to a few follow ups, some are very open and willing to help. Try to find out about this and there is nothing worse than new dentures and a sore spot. Lastly do not let wearing dentures change who you are, there is a steep learning curve here but one you can get past.
I am 52 and have had my full dentures for 16 years.
