Sure wish I would have came on this website before getting these ***darn things

Three weeks in, I feel that I look like the makeup artist from the planet of the apes got a hold of me. I can eat, but it hurts like heck. Really no more than just before I had this done. It's funny, I take these things out and push against my gums with my fingers and absolutely no pain. But put in my teeth and try to eat a twinkie and it even hurts. ( maybe a bit of a stretch, but you all know what I mean) For the uppers I am using the sea bond adhesive strips ( sorry fixodent) seem to be giving a bit more cushion than just food seal alone. But, creating alot more sores on the front of my upper gumline. Adjustments at the dentist are a pain in the ***. It seems that every time they fix one problem the fix creates two more problems. just me or are there others out there with this problem. I don't actually know anyone with dentures. everyone in my family has perfect teeth. My wife has perfect teeth. Heck, my dog even has perfect teeth.  I got a steak the other night an eight ounce fillet mignon. took two bites. Hurt quite a bit, but would have been worth the pain if it would have tasted the way that I thought it should, but of course it didn't. If this is what I have got to look forward to.... sigh, I'm tired of hearing myself complain. I even complain in my dreams for christ sakes. Ah, well can't do anything about it now. Get busy living or get busy dying, I say.

Don't worry, it will get better!!  You'll get use to them!  I know you feel like everyone can tell, but really they can't.   I had all the same problems, fix one and two or more were created.  But whats going on is, your mouth, or gums, are swollen!  Your sores are caused from the dentures not fitting right yet, and are rubbing on your gums which creates sores.  The adjustments will get better too!!  You must make sure they fix or adjust them the way your saying.  I got my dentures med February 2011.  Yes, I was in pain!!  I thought food will never be the same, I'll never look the same?   Well, I look better!  Still adjusting but getting use to the dentures!  The food, well, lets just say, to each there own, every one's different. I don't have any problems with tastes of foods, just wish I could still eat caramellI used the sea bond while going in for adjustments, it's the best bond to use at the time of adjustments.  Now I use Fixodent Original, I find it to work the best... always keeping my dentures in place!  So get busy living buckyboy 117, I promise everything does get better!!

I agree that the support offered by this forum is beneficial in many ways.

I never considered myself vain...until I got a lower denture five days ago. I guess the transition is more difficult for some of us than others.

Both my sisters had full sets installed years ago and (supposedly) never had a minute's problem <wink, wink...nudge, nudge.> I also know that our minds do a pretty effective job of forgetting pain and discomfort.

I take comfort from the fact that, barring serious complications, we should all be able to achieve a similar ease-of-use with our dentures that millions of others do.

Happy chewing,

fastfix

Buckyboy, I'm 2-1/2 months with full uppers & lowers now.  Getting better, but not great.  My face is finally starting to look more like it did before this started.  For a while I felt like I looked like Humphry Bogart with this major overbite, which I guess would be okay if I was a male, but alas, I'm not.  lol    Still don't enjoy eating like I did before, but getting better.  Some foods I haven't tried yet, but can do more than when I started.  Chewing is more work than before,  and my sense of taste seems to have diminished quite a bit, I'm not sure if it will ever come back 100%, but I can hope.  (Good for the diet anyway!)  I've managed to eat chicken, pork chops, etc., but don't enjoy it like before.  The first soft liner is in, and I'm having much better luck keeping the top plate firmly in place, but the bottom is problematic when I eat, have to take way smaller bites then before.  Still a little "slurry" with my S's, but the hard consenants are better.  I'm told by friends that the day will come when I will actually forget that I'm wearing them, hmmm, I sure hope so. Going to start fitting the permanent plates in another month.  I'm trying not to get my hopes up, that they will fit like a glove & eating & speaking will be a breeze, but time will tell.  Hang in there, the alternative, for me anyway, (going toothless that is), is unthinkable!  I know there a lots of folks out there with dentures, and you'd never know!  Maybe someday we'll be just like them, with prettier smiles!  Lots of luck to us all!
