Some of us, no matter what we do, cannot adjust to dentures. We simply can't wear them. I'm one of those people. I tried for YEARS to find a solution to my missing and broken teeth. Traditional dental implants were WAY out of my price range and the process was long, daunting, and painful, requiring a number of invasive painful surgeries such as sinus lifts and bone grafts. So that wasn't an option. The full denture option wasn't an option for me because, as I said, I can't wear that big bulky thing that moves around in my mouth. I have been blogging about my dental "adventure" here if you're interested (the link is on my profile) . I talk about my PTSD and how that relates to why I cannot wear a removable denture.
Anyway, gagging was the reason I could not tolerate a full removable denture. And the thought of adding oozy adhesive makes me want to hurl just thinking about it. (I tried and it didn't work). So with dentures I had to find a way to tolerate a big bulky full upper and lower denture in my mouth, and then if I wanted to eat, I had to add food too?? Are you kidding me? How much can fit comfortably in a mouth? No way. Couldn't do it. Just could NOT.
I finally decided to go with what's called the All-On-Four dental implant system, no bone grafts, no sinus lift, no big bulky denture, no adhesives. I had this done a week ago, and I am so happy I did. I was scared, not sure what to expect. I absolutely love it. I don't have to remove anything, don't have to glue anything to the roof of my mouth, the roof of my mouth isn't covered. The only temporary inconvenience I'm having is getting used to having a full set of teeth in my mouth again after being virtually toothless for all these years. It feels strange to have all my teeth again and so I'm having a bit of trouble pronouncing some words properly haha, but that will fix itself in time.
I thought I'd share my story with you all because I had no idea this option was available. None of the MANY dentists I went to over the years looking for a solution to my missing teeth mentioned the all-on-4 as an option. Probably because they don't know how to do it, so obviously they're not going to offer something they can't do.
I wonder if anyone else here has the all-on-4? I'd sure like to hear about your experience with it.
