I Just Cancelled!

Posted: May 23, 2011 9:50 pm

I had my app't for my extractions for this coming Thursday and I just cancelled it!  I Told the dentist's office that something came up and I have to Re-Schedule!!  The TRUTH of the matter was, I've NEVER EVER been SO SCARED IN MY LIFE to get the Extractions and then to put my full dentures in!!  The Best part is that I just PD IN FULL for my full Dentures and they're just SITTING there now!!  I'm NOT so scared of the extractions or the fact that I won't be able to eat well, as I Am that-- I Won't be Able to Talk decently-- and, FOR HOW LONG will I be sounding funny?  I have to go to work, I see and talk to people everyday, HOW CAN I DO THIS???!!!  I'm Not proud of the fact that I am NOT ready to let anyone know at this point!  God only knows that "I'm Not Even Ready" to accept this, never mind everyone else!!  Can someone PLEASE talk to me about THE TALKING Right After the Dentures are Placed in??!!  HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE BEFORE I CAN SEE PEOPLE AND TALK TO THEM NORMALLY?  please be honest.  Thank you, and thank you for being there.

I took a week off to give myself time to adjust (little did I know the first week would be the easiest).  I could talk normally immediately but as time has progressed and the fit isn't as good, "f" seems to be the only letter I have problems with.  No one seems to notice, but I can feel it.  Just be sure that you go back to the dentist regularly for adjustments and understand something I did not - this process is long and sometimes difficult.  I had no idea (because I had not found this site yet) that the healing would take 4-6 months.  I am still VERY frustrated but trying to hang in there.  Oh, by the way - my job is talking on the phone for 12 hours a night.

I was scared too.  My husband drove me there and I went back to the surgery room and really wanted to get up and walk out.

My first day after the extractions and placement of the dentures I slept most of the day.  The second day I talked a little (at the dentist for my first adjustment) and at home.  I still have (it's been 6 weeks) times where my speech is hard to understand expecially at the end of the day but 4 days after I went back to work and no one except the ones I told knew.
