scared to death

I am trying to get the courage to go have my teeth pulled and upper and lower dentures put in. I have horrible teeth and can't stand the embarrassment anymore, let alone the pain. One minute I will go and then the fear sets in and I won't want to do it. I have been reading the stories on this site and even though I know I don't have any choice I am getting more terrified than ever. I guess I will have to suck it up and get it over with but man what an ordeal. My husband and I both need this done and he can be a baby. I am afraid that he will get all his teeth pulled and won't even give the dentures a try. Even when he says he has to do something, I guess we won't know until we do it. I think that we will go to Affordable Dentures to have this done. Has anyone gone to them? We don't have much money, we haven't worked in 2 years, we need to do something, Is not having teeth better than the dentures? Are Dentists willing to help with problems that may come up along the journey of getting dentures? Do the Dentists give you crap for having horrible teeth? I know that we are not the only people that have bad teeth, but I sure do feel like it. I am embarrassed to even show them to the dentist. All I want is a great smile and to be able to show off nice teeth. Please if someone is out there that is or was in the same boat PLEASE let me know. I know that I said my husband is the baby but I know that I am the biggest one. Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling and please take the time to talk to me.

Hi! I hope you are feeling better.  You sound like me.  I AM a dental phobic with bad teeth.  I have had bad teeth my entire life and have spent a small fortune ....they are still awful..16 root canals later.. awful. I have had perio surgery by 25 yrs old.  However, I have finally decided that I have had enough with the pain, embarassment, etc.  I am getting 4 teeth pulled in 2 days and I am getting a partial denture.  I am going to a dental school and I have finally found a dentist that knows what to do with my mouth... The Dental instructor and dentists in training have all picked up on my fear and anxiety of dentists.   They gave me a  for a calming anti anxiety drug and told me to "make sure I took it 1 hr before my appt".  Maybe this will help you also. To relax your nerves before you have the work done..I could never do it without them.. I am not happy that at my age I will have false teeth, never mind all the $$, pain and suffering...but..things could be worse...so I'll have nice, clean, painfree teeth..and the bad teeth will be gone!! You can do it too.!!  I was so afraid of the dentist that I had my 10 YEAR OLD NIECE sitting at the chair HOLDING MY HAND and I was so terrified that  the Dentist told us to leave because I was going to give him a heart atteck or have one myself...True story!  Good luck.  I keep telling myself that the sooner i get rid of my bad teeth, the quicker i will get my clean pretty ones!

I went to Affordable Dentures and had 29 teeth extracted. I had the immediate dentures put in. They were very nice and didn't give me any crap for my bad teeth. I told myself I would not have any work done unless I was put to sleep for it. I was so scared of the dentist. Well, I went there and I was awake for it all, and I done fine. I am happy to have it over. I no longer have pain. My pain was going up to my lip and nose. It was horrible. I had to pay for it all up front and submit the claim to my insurance. I'm still waiting for my insurance to pay us back part of it. To have 29 teeth pulled, and I got their package deal which includes the immediate dentures, perm dentures later, and free adjustments I had to pay under 3,000.

I had my teeth extracted (19) last Wednesday 05/25 at Affordable Dentures and they were "Wonderful".  Dr. Hagan was very sweet through the whole process, I go back this Thursday for my first adjustments and soft liner.  I too was really nervous about having this done and I went in on a Monday and had a consult 2 weeks before my procedure was done and they were very thorough of what would be happening.  I love my new dentures they turned out better that what I expected in appearance and those will not be my permanent I will get them in Nov.  I wish you & hubby best of luck on your new journey, just make sure you have lots of patiences as far a getting adjusted to them.  I am having diffculty eating because my bottom dentures want to flop around and I'm hoping on Thursday this will solve my problem.  I really researched the internet and there are video's on "youtube" you can watch and this seemed to help me alot.  As far as paying I went through my 401k and my insurance will pay the rest.  The Affordable Dentures I went to does not file insurance claims, but they will give you everything you need to send your insurance which was very simple.  This is a really big step and I don't think you will regret it, I don't and everyone that I talk to says it will get better and before you know it you don't realize there are dentures in your mouth.
