Suggestions PLEASE

Posted: June 4, 2011 8:40 pm

I have had my upper dentures almost 3 months now.  At first, I had horrible gagging; but, now that I actually eat, it's more than gagging - I have progressed to actually throwing up.  My dentist shortened the back of the denture and, as of this past Wednesday, the denture fits the best it has ever fitted.  So, that is not the problem.  I have had my denture in for 3 hours today and already thrown up twice.  I only know to describe it as my palate starts tingling, then pulsating until my stomach starts churning.  I don't understand what it going on.  Any suggestions?  PLEASE?

Bless your heart,... I'm so sorry.  There must be something your Dentist can do for you. I've never run across anyone that had this problem. I know when I 1st. got mine they seemed to fill my whole mouth & it was hard to accept that feeling, but you do. Yours, however is a much more troublesome problem, I couldn't live with that for a week, much less 3 months. I do HOPE you can find relief thru your Dentist, or maybe a suggestion from someone who's been thru the same experience. I'm wishing you better days ahead!!

My DH had the same problem and chose to have implants with a fixed brace that his dentures clip onto. The palate was completely removed. My insurance did not pay, but the dentist worked with us. DH says it was very much worth it. I am contemplating doing the same for my full lowers.

Thank you for the reply.

Until this past Wednesday, it has been too lose, simply sliding down without adhesive.  I have natural teeth on bottom and will be getting partials (if I can ever get used to these).  I have only used adhesive on the "hump" of the denture, where the tingling/pulsating is a few times.  I use very little on the gums.  I am beginning to feel that this is an "allergic" type reaction - maybe to the white, temporary liner.  But I don't have the feeling in my gum area.  This has gone on long enough that I am ready to cut the center out of the denture and just use more adhesive.  I cannot continue on this way.

I'm wondering if the denture is too tight. Do you have a lower denture or natural teeth? Are you using an adhesive product that you might possibly be sensitive to or maybe even the denture material themselves. I'd look at these things first, maybe discuss these possibilities with the dentist.
