New teeth at 33

Posted: June 22, 2011 10:30 pm

I am 33 years old, and am 2 days into my new teeth. I have a partial on the bottom, and a full denture on the top. I had the last 8 teeth on the top pulled on Monday and the new teeth put in immediately.  Boy, are they hard to get used to! The extraction sites under my denture are extremely painful today, even with pain medication. And it is very painful to take out the upper denture to clean it like the dentist said to do.  Of course I am still eating soft foods only, and it seems difficult to even attempt "chewing" tiny bites of bread.

I want to hear from other people "younger" than most with dentures.  I am nervous about going back to work tomorrow, I sell furniture for a living and talking has already been difficult for me at home!

Glad to know you are improving, It is just going to better and better. I am flashing my pearly whites every where. I just love smiling again. There is an online support group called Dentures a new smile. This website will not let me post the direct link, but put it in your search engine it will come right up. You will find a lot of good info there as well as pictures and video. Last night my husband asked me why we had run out of ibuprofen and I realized it is because I am not living on the stuff because my crappy teeth are killing me. I did not even know we were out. It's silly but I saw it as a major milestone. This is now day 30 and I am pain free, and eating well, I hope you will be soon too

Rosie12, thanks for the tip on taking out the top plate! I look forward to trying it.  I really think I will be more okay with all of this new life with dentures when the extraction sites finally heal up.  My teeth are a week old now, and I definitely feel better with the whole situation.

I wish these message boards were more active, is there somewhere else that people are conversing about life with dentures that I don't know about?

I am 42 I got my full set of dentures at 30. It took me forever to get used to them. I would like to add that it took awhile to get used to the best type of glue or adhesive to use. I chose to use the fixodent powder it seems to work the best for me the other types like the adhesive tapes or strips just did not seem to work for me. It does get easier the dentist said that I needed to keep trying to say the state Mississippi over and over as far as getting the sss's sound.  Hope this helps. And yes the grinding will stop there is nothing in there to grind. There is a key to taking out the top plate if you press your thumbs on the inside of the top dentures and push forward they just pop out. Really hope this helps you.

Hi, responding to removing denture adhesives...rinse your mouth with warm water this will loosen it up pretty good then use a paper towel or dry wash cloth to wipe clean and for removing adhesive from your dentures just run the dentures under very warm water using your tooth brush.

Hope this helps
