I am having all of my upper and all but 4 lowers extracted on Tuesday. I went to a Prosthonontist and she recommended I wait for healing as I don't work. She said I need to wait 3-4 weeks before impressions and another 3-5 weeks till dentures are in my mouth. Has anyone else had it done this way?

I didn't get immediate dentures, either and am really glad I did it this way. I'm retired and it was not a problem to be without teeth. Except for eating-ha! Had 2 dentists tell me that the longer you can wait for your gums to heal, the better fit you can get. I had all but 6 teeth pulled on May 4 and got my dentures Aug 9. I have a full upper and a partial lower. So far I have only had to have 2 minor adjustments and NO really sore spots. GOOD LUCK!!

I had all but four teeth pulled out 3 days ago. Pain has been minimal. Speech can be difficult at times, but I think it is due to the swelling of the surrounding rissue. I will not have teeth in my mouth until mid-September. I am not working so this is not too much of an issue for me. I am so glad I had those teeth pulled. No more infection and sensitivity and fear of which one is going to snap off next. And I know the end result will be worth it. Please, if you need dentures, don't hesitate. It will be so nice to smile again! Just do it!

This is the same route I'm taking. I had all my back teeth extracted on May 18th and didn't start my impressions until July 6th (so that my gums could heal). I've had 2 add'l appointments since July 6th and I'll finish the extractions and receive my permanent, full dentures July 27th (1 week from today). I know immediates are nice for those who want or need it done right away...but I am so glad I followed my dentist's advice. Things have healed nicely and my mouth feels pretty good right now. When he goes to pull the rest next week - the pain should be bearable since the back is already healed and that's where most of the biting force is. Good luck :)
