Adhesive

Posted: August 11, 2011 1:59 pm

Tried adhesive for the first time yesterday.  I used the paste.  My question is how do you get it out of your mouth later.  I don't want to try powder or strips until my mouth heals more.  I can't stand the paste in my mouth when i take them out.

The kleenex brand hand towels work great.  They are softer than paper towels but durable. I use them dry and then I picked up a tip on here. Finish with a floss pick. They are cheap at dollar stores and really peel off the last stubborn hangers on. Fixodent makes my denture wearable  and I live the all day stick till I have to peal in out. It is worth the nightime clean up to feel good al day

There using a combination of Fixodent Food Seal and powder. The combination works great for me. My bottom denture will hold for around 18 hours.

I use Fixodent Free and Clear adhesive.  NOTHING I use keeps my dentures in place.  It's strange how my dentures won't stay glued in, yet it is still so difficult to get the wads of glue off my gums and roof of mouth.  I've found the best way to get out that goo is to keep rinsing and swishing with as hot of water that you can stand. That usually melts it enough where you can pick it off with your fingers.  It still takes 15 minutes to get it all off though and there's many times I wake during the night still feeling that I missed some.  Everyone says to use the powder... It supposedly holds better and there is no goo to clean off.  I tried it a week ago.  My teeth fell out in an hour!  No matter what I use, I have to reglue my dentures every 2-4 hours and always 1/2 hour before I eat, otherwise I can't chew anything.  With all the zinc poisoning scares out there from denture adhesives, I am hoping that these companies come up with something else.  They say to use it only once a day and make sure not to swallow it...    Not possible for me.  I have Sjogren's syndrome and that is why I lost my teeth...no saliva.  So, I have no suction to hold the teeth in at all.   I wish  you all the best and if you discover any magical products, please share with the readers.

Oh wow i realy hate the paste!   Dont get me wrong you get great hold but, when its time to remove your dentures your gums have this left ove gunk stuck to the inside of your mouth.   I have tried brushing my gums and the only thing that works is that you have to pick and pull out this crap stuck inside your mouth and this take me about 30mins to get it all out.  the i brush my gums and rinse.

I was almost gagging, when I started using it. My trick, after reading all the posts, was to have a moistened paper towel ready, remove the dentures, then wipe at the adhesive, with the towel. Make sure and use a good quality towel, you don't want a one that will shred, or worse, scuff up the tender gum. After I get most of it out, I rinse with warm water and then spit out the rest. Hope this helps.
