Should I wear adhesive?

Posted: August 21, 2011 5:59 pm

So, I have been wearing full tops and bottoms for 3 weeks now.  I love them and has not had any problems.  I have never wore any adhesive yet and am wondering if I should start.  I don't have much problem eating but some food is getting in my tops dentures the last couple of days.  Also, the one thing that I have yet learn to do that is really driving me nuts is take a bite out of something like a hamburger, sandwhich, or pizza.  I have tried on the side of my mouth and the front but it pops out the top and sometimes the bottom.  I ask the place I got my dentures done at and they said "oh I will never be able bit anything every again" Is that true?  I mean it is really embrassing when you are sitting at a fast food place making a mess cause you are tearing your hamburgers up into bite size pieces.  Please tell me there is hope for this!!!

But, I am wondering if I put adhesive if that would help me be able to bite into things?  Please any advice or tips???!

I got my full set the end of August.  I use adhesive on both and feel very comfortable with it.  I ate a burger 2 nights after getting them.  What I did learn was (at least for me) that if I used more pressure biting up with my lowers rather than biting down with my uppers it worked much better.

Did you get an immediate denture? If you did it may be time for a soft reline. I have not needed one which shocked my dentist, but some people get them in the first week or 2.. I don't undetstand them saying you cannot bite things. Maybe not like real teeth  but certianly a burger. Make the place you got your plates see you and deal with your issues. I am sure like all of us you paid a bundle. They should give you better service than "Oh my the way you cannot bite things" let me know

Thanks Aggie for responding.  I am trying to be possitive this has been a rollercoaster of emotions.  Anyways so I tried Adhesive and it has help alot but now I can't get my top plate to stay in without it.  I been using it and today I was not going to go anywhere so I figure I would not use it but they kept falling out so I guess I have to use it now.  My bottoms I only use the adhesive when I am going somewhere.  I am chewing better but still can't figure out how to bite into anything.  I bite into a pizza or yesterday it was a soft taco and I can bite into it but it is like my teeth are not strong enough to break the tortailla.  When I tired to eat a pizza the other day I bite into it and pulled but all that came off was the cheese.  I feel like my teeth are not strong enough and I don't know what to do about that.  But other then that kind of stuff I am eating alot better.  I even tried a chip for the first time and was so excited that I could chew it.  I am now offically been a month so hopefully it keeps getting better

There is a post on here called  " what  a difference adhesive makes".  My denture fits well but a dab of fixodent makes all the differnce. I bite corn on the cob, burgers, pizza, liciorice, chew steak. I cannot bite an apple but my teeth were so delicate before I got my denture I did could hardly chew anything. Adhesives make the dentures so much more stable, and they feel more natural. Do yourself a favor and try some for a week  I bet you will never be without adhesives again.  I have a drawer full of stuff that i bought to try they all helped, but just grab yourself a tube of fixident free  it the best and go to it.  Update your post so I will know how you are doing. Adhesives RULE.
