Need help!

Posted: January 14, 2012 11:13 am

I had a full extraction 4 weeks ago and an imitate upper put in. It was very painful for the first week but on week two the swelling went down and my face especially my upper lip started to look normal again. I've been in once a week since to get it filled to fit better but every time I do it pushes my upper lip out more and more and I am very uncomfortable with my looks. I know I may notice more than most people do but a couple at work have commented on it and it makes even more depressed about this hole thing and makes me wish I never did it. When I ask the dentist what he can do adopt it he just tells me I'll have to get use to it. Is this true or is there something he can do that he's not telling me. Just want to eat and feel normal again. I've lost 23 pounds in 4 week and haven't eaten anything but chicken soup and slimfast shakes so I'm worried my health is going so suffer if I don't figure out how to manage this. Any advice would help. I'm only 41 but feel like I'm 90. :(

Yes I had trouble sleeping for the first week or so. My dentist had me take it out every night before I went to bed and that helped but I found meself dreaming about eating and every now and then I would bite down and that was very painfull. I  did fall asleep with it in the first week and it would come loose and that very painfull. If you can avoid sleeping on you side and sleep on your back it seems to help but I didn't have much luck. I always seemed to roll over on my side so I took it out at night for the first three weeks. On week four I was able to sleep with it in with little or no pain. Nothing Advil doesn't take care of anyways.

I took the pain killers the first two weeks as much as they would allow. It help so don't be afraid it made a big differace for me just be carefull. I now only take Advil except when I try to chew. Sometimes right after or the next morning I'm very sore so I take just one if it really hurts.

Hope this helps and good luck.

There is not alot of painin my gums but when I try to chew it come loose and moves around alot and then it pushes into my gums where the cheak and gums meet. I have tryed the food seal and adhesive but with no luck. I don't kmow if I'm not using it right or maybe not enough. My dentist told me to put a small amount where it meets the roof of my mouth but that didn't work. Then I tryed using it per the directions but still no luck. I don't want to get any into the extraction area so I'm trying not to use to much and maybe that where I'm going wrong.

Any advise would help. I'm frustrated and am willing to try anything. I pride myself on my cooking and since this I can even go shopping without getting frustrated or upset. I know this won't happen over night but I just want to enjoy food again someday and right now I feel like I'm at a stand still.

I am on day 4 of having a full set of dentures and I fell my uppers fit better than the lower.........I have a lot of sore spot that is going to have to be dealt with when I go in on Monday for another adjustment.   I am 65 year old lady and have been used to having a couple partials in my mouth but this is more of a challange for me.   I am on Slim Fast and yogurt and hot tea.     I am trying to get off of them and use us IB Profin, don't know if I can.   I have a hard time sleeping at night, did you?  I do have a great dentist and I know he will work with me until they are right.  I love my smile now and my white teeth.  With the price of the whole plan your dentist should work with you until you are happy.  I would continue to press the issue.  Good Luck!   I know this will get better too.

I think the soft liner is making your denture too thick which is causing your lip to be extended.  I think this can be fixed, but I am not sure whether your dentist would need to get the lab involved.  In turn, that would involve additional cost to you (but it would be worth it).  You need to press your dentist on this and, if he is not responsive, you need to see another dentist for another opinion.

You didn't say what is preventing you from eating.  Is it pain?  Is it movement of your denture?  You need to describe the issue to your dentist and get him to fix it so you can begin to eat more foods.  In the meantime, you should drink liquids and eat soft foods that have more calories and nutrients.  If you must, try Boost or Ensure rather than Slimfast.

Good luck.
