Well, the day finally arrived. I'm getting my immpressions done today for a full set of porcelain dentures (upper and lower). Then I have to wait until February 24th (today is January 25th) for the full extractions of all my teeth (full mouthful except for 2 that fell out that started this whole adventure!).
I have 2 more that are really loose in the front on top. And 2 or 3 lower in front that are very loose. I could probably pull them out myself, but will wait to see what the dentist says when I get there for the immpressions. I stopped taking my low dose aspirin (just something I take at my age of 52/m as a precaution) 2 days ago so in case the dentist pulls the teeth today I won't bleed as much.
I've been reading all the messages everyone posts the good ones with the bad ones. All I can do is put my trust in the dentist office and try to keep a positive outlook.
I'm not thrilled having to pay a $7,200 co-pay and my dental insurance (Dental HMO) is paying the remaining balance for a total of $19,000 for all this. I sure hope it's worth it! So far I've met with the dentist for about 5 minutes, he recommended they all be pulled and then turned me over to the Office Manager lady who did a pretty hard sell to get the "works" done (2 implants on the bottom) and porcelain teeth. She touched my shoulder and said "that's what I would recommend for my own parents if they were getting dentures". It was a bit over the top, but I'm going along with it. I'll have to go to another city to have the work done if I change dentist's office and with all the follow ups, this isn't convenient at all.
Please wish me luck on this journey! I'll try to keep you all posted as things progress in case anyone is interested. I've had 11 other surgeries including a below knee amputation and 2 back surgeries over the years so I've dealt with pain before and adjusting to a prosthetic leg. Never thought I would adjust to that, but I have done very well with it and don't even feel it on most of the time. I'm hoping getting dentures will be easier but prepared for my body to protest these foreign bodies in my mouth. It's definitely mind over matter and a good dentist that is patient. If he's not, he will get canned for it but not before I make it clear (nicely) that I expect good treatment if I'm not getting it. You all have taught me a lot! So thank you :)
