I'm new to the forum, and enjoy reading about my "peer's and their individual issues, it has been a big help as I experience my "denture adventure". I had all my teeth out last Saturday, and upper and lower dentures, placed in immediately. So its been about a week, I'm a big tuff guy, with what I believe is a high tolerance for pain, but this event is trying In my job, I talk alot, my dentures seem to flop out in the middle of a conversation, my question, how soon can I start using some "type" of gripping substance?

I work for Fixodent, and I've recently joined the message board. I would have responded sooner, but I ran into some technical issues which prevented me from doing so.
You should be able to start wearing a denture adhesive after about two weeks. By now you may have already started using adhesive, but you could also check with your dentist to see when is best for you. I'd like to send you something through the mail to help get you started. Would you mind sending an email to smhc.im at pg dot com with your name and address? I know the way I wrote my email address seems odd. Currently some limitations on the site prevent me from writing out my email address the usual way. Thanks! ^Karen

I had my upper teeth out 4 days ago. I just got home from my dentist appointment, but I literally had to go TO the dentist with my new uppers in a container because I couldn't get them back in it hurt soooo bad. Anyway, they "shapped" up my dentures and gave me, fixodent to help keep them on. The doctor told me that taking all your teeth out at one time is major surgery. You have swollen gum yet they are shrinking at the same time. They showed me how to use the fixodent and they are really sticking now!!! Check out the space on here where it showes you exactly where to place the fixodent and try it.... it should help you!! Good luck, keep in mind there are sooo many people on here that are having problems with their NEW dentures; check out the message board it should help you!!!

Agree, not any "real" pain, just a discomfort with them being there. Its been 9 days now, getting a little better, seem to tolerate them better for the first 8 hours of the day, strain to want to keep them in for the next 6. I like your idea of the little dab on top and on the ends of the bottom, I believe I will try tomorrow.

Good evening!
When I first got my dentures, I went back to my dentist 4 days later and he advised me to put a small dab of effergrip, or whatever you decide to use, on the upper part of the plate that fits into the roof of your mouth. That actually helped quite a bit and kept it away from my healing gums. I had more problem with my lowers and put a bit at the very end of the denture and that also helped. I also did not experience a lot of pain and it was more the discomfort of having them in my mouth and inability to keep them in place that bothered me. So are you doing better now?! :)
Good luck!
