My new smile

Posted: March 22, 2012 7:58 pm

Well, yesterday was the biggest day in my life. I had my last 12 teeth pulled and was given my brand new dentures (full upper and lower). I absolutely love my new smile! From reading all the other posts from newbies on here, it sounds like I'm dealing slowly with the same issues as everyone else. You know---my tongue feels like someone else moved in without his knowledge, my gums are still sore, I had to go back today for some minor adjustment, all the different problems. BUT, I love my new smile!

I can't wait until the healing is done in a few weeks so I can try some sort of adhesive to "grip" my dentures and stop some of the rocking I get. It's also hard for me to tell how much of the sore mouth is from fit or from extractions. I think I have an awesome dentist and he is really helpfull and concerned about what I need done. Time will tell, but I think I'll love this change in my life.

Did I tell you.....I LOVE MY NEW SMILE!!!!

Ten months ago I was where you are. Ten months later I love my new smile too :) I don't mind having my picture taken which delights my daughter because she loves pictures of us together, I love walking down the street and smiling back at people who smile at me, i feel good and I love my smile too :) It is all a process and I am still working on the process. I am still getting used to this stuff in my mouth. Sometimes I still don't know where my tongue is supposed to be. There are still some foods I can't eat. Leafy veggies are my biggest issue. Can't chew them up at all. I lost my lips for awhile, but when the teeth were reworked a bit after my hard lining was done I got them back :) Life is good :) I found I did eat a lot of Motrin at the beginning to help me through, but it was well worth it. You really need to keep those teeth in so your gums and reshape and develop to the new dentures. After my hard lining adjustment they told me not to take them out for a week unless I had burning shooting pain. I did as they said and by golly, in one week I felt great again. Stick with it, don't get discouraged, it all works. It is amazing how our mouths adjust :) Keep smiling!!!!
