E-Day is Tomorrow & Having Major Panic Attacks!

Posted: March 29, 2012 8:24 pm

43 yr old female have had problems with my teeth since before i was 13 years old, had recently started having problems with my thyroid to which according to the tyroid dr is caused from my teeth and according to my old dentist teeth issuses were blammed on undiagnossed thyroid issue, but regaurdless of which one is the culprit bottom line is they have to radiate the thyroid and then remove it but before they will touch it said i need to have all teeth removed. finally got up the nerve enough to go through the process and e day is tomorrow, due to finances can only do one half at a time so it will be full uppers tomorrow as well as 2 extractions on bottom (as when they pulled impression stuff off last week they broke the 2 bottom ones and they became abcessed.....My Luck)  Because of past bad reactions to gas and sedation they are just gonna give local and i will be awake..( sooo not happy about that) In the past i have fainted in the chair after having novocaine for a root canal, also fainted years ago after seeing the bloody gauze from a wisdom tooth so im sure tomorrow is going to be challanging, was hoping the would have given me something to calm me down enough to even get me in their door tomorrow but they did not and my alprazolam is definately NOT helping me at the moment LOL. I am a smoker and have had dry socket before in one extraction before even after following directions so i know smoking afterwards is NOT an option nor a feeling i want to even comprehend in multiple locations as that 1st time hurt pretty good. Although not happy about the idea i was just starting to come to terms with slapping on a patch after extractions for the smoking part, but when i went the other day for the final bite register they informed me that on top of not smoking that i will not be able to have my coffee nor my pepsi atleast for the first few days......That has set me into my panic attack mode talk about having to give up the only 3 things in life that get my by every day LOL I figure id swap the hot coffee for iced  freeze my pepsi into popsicles...smoking im half tempted to figure out how to rig up an extra hose Y adapter and face mask to my moms nebulizer ( worst case scenerio that patches dont help) leaves me with the last few fears to work out Pain needles fear of passing out and bleeding to death havent even begun to even have a fear of immediate uppers not fitting or anything like that or id probably be even more of a basket case than i am right now.....Anyone have any suggestions??????

I'm glad you're feeling okay after your extractions!  I understand speaking and eating are challenges to overcome, but in time, I'm sure you'll be back to eating your favorite foods.  And after a follow-up visit or two, your dentist should be able to fine-tune the fit of your dentures.

I'd like to send you something to help get you started on your journey with dentures.  Would you mind sending me an email with your name and address?  Please send it to smhc.im@pg.com and reference Denture Living 2112 in the subject line.  Thanks!

Well.... I Made It, took alot longer than they anticipated 4hours for 12 teeth! There were complications, couldnt get me numb for nothing they wound up having to drill into each tooth to the nerve and numbing it that way it wasnt a very plaeasant experience but ive come to the realization that that is just how my luck goes lol. When it comes time for the bottoms i have already told them i would rather take a chance on never waking up again then to go through that so i WILL be getting put to sleep! Painwise i am doing good no pain at any extraction site at all just slight discomfort where needles went in. i took a pain pill when i came home late yesterday afternoon and havent needed to take another. drinking and eating pudding are a challenge, talking is NOT an option cannot talk with theese in at all, they did a soft reline on them when they put them in and fit pretty good but still loose, they lossened during the night to which i woke up choking but that probably due to i normally grind my teeth at night but they went back up no problem, definately not used to seeing so many teeth in my mouth! Go back on monday for a follow up and hope they can make them stay and hope that the talking issue is resolved by Friday or its is safe to assume that i will NOT be going back to work until then lol

I’m Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager.  I understand why you’d be nervous right now.  From what you said, having your teeth pulled will allow the treatment of your thyroid.  Remind yourself you’re doing what’s best for YOU.  You’ll have some challenges to overcome, but I think you’ll find it was worth it.  Since today is your big day, be sure to write back later to let us know how you’re doing!
