I woke up with my new dentures in my mouth on Friday. I took them out that night before bed. I can't seem to get them back in. It hurts and my gums seem too swollen. Any advice?

I had my top teeth pulled and the denture put in on April 5th. I did leave them in for 24 hours and then took them out only to rinse my mouth. The first week was brutal - really bad pain - I had been rinsing with warm salt water and I had to sit down to put my teeth in, I was afraid I would faint. Then I thought about the benefit of ice water and the numbing effect. I started to use extremely cold ice water and hold it in my mouth right before I put the denture in. I am surprised that the dentist didn't recommend the ice water because it really works. It is now close to 2 months and it is much easier..not perfect but easier.

I'm Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager. After receiving immediate dentures, it is normal to leave them in for at least 24 hours. The dentures act as a bandage and help to minimize swelling. Since you can't fit them back into your mouth, please contact your dentist. I wish I could help further, but your dentist is an expert and can best advise you.
Let us know how it goes.
