So far I have had no interest in food anymore and it has been 4 months so I am hoping that things change , because I Really miss eating !! it just feels like a big thick plastic barrier on the roof of my mouth and constant saliva , does anyone else feel this or am I overreacting ?

I JUST got my dentures in yesterday (tooth surgery and dentures in same day). While I cant say about all foods, so far ive only had pudding, jello, mountain dew, chocolate ice cream, and a Ice Mocha (more liquid then anything), I havent really noticed much change yet. If it hasnt yet it probably wont but I dont know lol.

I have not experienced much (if any) difference in the taste or flavor of foods. In fact, I was (and sometimes I still am) amazed at how flavorful some foods taste despite wearing my teeth. It is really true that most of the taste buds are in the tongue rather than the palate. I think that, after you master chewing all of the foods that you like (by practicing and experimenting and being patient), you will not notice much (if any) difference in the way they taste.
However, I have had some difficulty experiencing and enjoying the texture of some foods. Examples are: guacamole (which feels smoother and less enjoyable); chocolate (which doesn't quite melt the same way); ice cream (which doesn't feel as cold and is the only food that I sometimes eat without my teeth); and dry toast (which feels, but does not taste, like cardboard). I have given up guacamole and dry toast but not chocolate or ice cream!
Stay positive and relax as best you can. Good luck (and let us know how you do).

I'm Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager. I understand why you'd feel nervous right now, and I'm glad you came to the message board. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to feel nervous. Just think how beautiful your new smile will be!
When you first get your denture, it might feel like food has lost its flavor. Your mind will receive strong signals from your mouth about your denture, which may overpower the messages from your taste buds. This is only temporary, and your sense of taste will improve after you adapt to wearing your denture.
Also, while most of the taste buds are on the tongue, some taste buds are on the roof of your mouth. An upper denture covers the roof of your mouth, and this may cause some people to experience a minor change in the taste of food. Members of the message board, have you noticed a change in the taste of food? If so, how long did it last?
I hope this helps!
^Karen
