Do Partial clasps require drilling anchor tooth?

Posted: July 15, 2012 2:53 pm

Hi-I am going to get a partial and I don't understand if the wire that wraps around the tooth (to keep partial in) has to be drilled down in order for the clasp to fit.  I have very week teeth and root canals and I'm concerned the clasp will stress the teeth.

In most cases the teeth that will hold the partial in place have to be modified for the clasps. Clasps can be very stressful. Good luck.

I'm Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager, and I understand your concern.  There are different methods of attaching partial dentures, and which is used depends on your situation and your dentist's preference.  Speak with your dentist ahead of time to discuss your concern and to find out which method he or she plans to use.

I wish you the best as you receive your partial denture.  Keep in touch!
