11 days of pain and nothing in the future shows any change!

11 days ago I had 12 teeth removed from the top, & 1 & bone scrapeing on the bottom. dentures were put in immediately, had alignment done on day 3, was taking pain pills, but had to stop to go back to work. putting them in is so painful, it takes at least an hour to adjust to the pain. i can eat scrabble eggs & jello, have lost 21 pounds in 10 days. my dentures are supposed to be suction & not require adhesive, but they wont stay up & my dentist said to put some adhesive in the middle of the roof of my mouth, but keep it away from the gums. the pain is so intense, i cant sleep at night, cant concentrate, am afraid to drive.

I'm Karen, the Fixodent Community Manager.  I hate to hear you're in so much pain.  I know this is a very difficult time for you right now, but try not to be discouraged.  You're not alone and you will get through this.

The period of pain after extractions varies from person to person.  With the level of pain you described, I would recommend that you schedule an appointment to see your dentist as soon as possible.  Your dentist should be able to evaluate your dentures to determine what's causing the pain, and hopefully relieve it for you.  And you're correct, an upper denture is held in place by suction.  If you feel there's a lack of suction with your upper denture, be sure to discuss this with your dentist, also.

I know it probably hurts to eat, but keep eating and try to stay well-hydrated.  I'm glad you're able to eat scrambled eggs and gelatin.  You can also try yogurt, applesauce, pudding, milkshakes, cottage cheese, and baked potatoes & baked sweet potatoes.

Hang in there and keep in touch to let us know how you're doing.

^Karen
