Get it done. Make your mouth healthy again. As soon as you get your dentures put them in and check and see if they fit tightly. If they don't get fixodent and make sure they do. You have to train your mouth to adjust to your new teeth. You will see your life improve immediately. Just smile more and watch the world smile back.

I lost most of my teeth to Sjogren's Syndrome. I am left with the front 6 teeth on the upper and lower jaw. I have worn a lower partial for a year and will receive my upper partial in 2 weeks. I LOVE my lower partial. It fits nice and snug. I can eat anything except gumdrops and chewing gum. My lower partial is so comfortable that when I am wearing it, I am not even aware of its presence.
My advice:
1. Use a dentist who has a lot of experience extracting teeth and making dentures. My dentist has a large Medicaid practice and makes a lot of dentures.
2. Make sure the dentist uses a good dental lab.
3. Allow 8 weeks to heal from your extractions before you start getting your impressions made. This is important. Your gums need that time to heal.
4. Make sure your dentist measures the denture in your mouth throughout the entire process. This should take 5 appointments, each 1 week apart from one another, with the exception of week 2 to 3, which takes 2 weeks.
The 1st appointment = impressions on both upper and lower jaw.
The 2nd appointment =impressions on the jaw that you are having the denture made for
The 3rd appointment =measuring the metal framework (this appointment takes 2 weeks)
The 4th appointment =measuring a trial denture, which is made in wax
The 5th appointment =you receive your completed denture
If you find a dentist that follows these guidelines and takes the time to make sure the denture has been properly and precisely measured, you should be happy with the result. This process takes longer than some denture places, and you have to be without your teeth for 14 weeks (healing time and denture making time), but it is SO worth it.
I hope this helps!
