Make sure you need them first. Your dentist will let you know. If you need them, don't be afraid. When I first got my dentures it was scary but I was happy that I was going to be able to smile again. I'm on my second set of dentures and I love my second pair over the first pair. When I got my first pair I used fixodent continuously until a few years later I found out I could wear them without adhesive. My second pair fits so great - both upper and lower - that the suction keeps the uppers in like they are cemented in, the lowers fit great too, better than the first set. You can learn how to keep the bottoms from moving with the use of your tongue. Just don't get the tongue between the teeth when eating lol. When you get your first set, it's a whole new world. Learning to talk and eat takes time. When you first talk you may whistle with some words but eventually you'll get to where you talk normally. As for eating, at first choose soft foods. Work your way up and eventually you'll be able to eat almost anything. The biggest advice I can give is when you first get dentures, DO NOT make a grilled cheese sandwich your first meal lol. The cheese sticks and your teeth stay stuck together. Not good when you are in a restaraunt lol.

If cost is a concern, I suggest a dental school.  The cost will be low and care will great.  Be prepared for a long process, but the work will be done right!

I agree with you on the after effects of getting dentures.  I have had a lot of work done to prepare for my dentures.  Looking forward to my dentures; which should be in about a week.  Eight bad teeth removed, eight others repaired.  I feel a lot healthier.
