I would like to read more replies

I was the worst of the worst when it came to the decision to get a full upper denture. I can finally say it was the best decision I've ever made. I hadn't seen a dentist for years due to very bad experiences but finally got talked into it. I'm so-o-o glad I did. It's only been a week and yes, there is an adjustment, but well worth it. I can smile again and the reactions for friends has been wonderful.

First I have to tell you I'm jealous because you're right up there with the Bristol Motor Speedway which is my favorite track.  Now with that being said, I had top dentures when I was in my late 40's and just as was mentioned in an earlier reply, I thought everyone would ask about my teeth and that I'd be self-conscious because of my new look.  That wasn't a problem at all.  The transition to "great teeth" was easy and pretty painless.  People that knew me didn't come up and tell me what great teeth I had and I'm glad they didn't.  I knew I had great teeth.

Before I made the decision I was concerned about the pain aspect.  There was going to be a lot of things going on in my mouth and I thought it was going to hurt quite a bit.  I had my teeth pulled and remember mumbling something to the dentist about having the first tooth out wasn't bad at all.  He told me it wasn't the first tooth.  It was the last one.  I walked out of the office that day sporting my new teeth and I love them and that was about 10 years ago.  I'm on my second set now because I somehow managed to break my original set.  Even then, I had new teeth in by the end of the day.  My dentist guided me though the initial process even explaining how to pick the color of teeth.  Big bright teeth wouldn't look natural on someone my age so we "aged" my new teeth just a bit and I'm glad we did.  I even had one tooth set at just a little bit of an angle so they wouldn't look perfect.

Sometimes there's a little discomfort while wearing them but nothing to complain about.  I feel the need to "get out of my teeth" sometimes even though I take them out at night.  Maybe it's the freedom of drinking a milkshake without my teeth that I like.  I do that at home though...not out of the house.

I happened across this website a couple days ago because I wanted to send a comment to the Fixodent makers about their powder.  I usually use the Fixodent paste with Scope but for some reason last week I wanted to try the Fixodent powder.  Maybe that goes back to seeing my mother use Fasteeth powder.  I wasn't expecting much though.  How could a powder hold like a paste?  I was surprised when I used the powder.  It held great and was quite a bit more comfortable.  I'm sticking with it.  I wish I would have tried it earlier but I thought I knew everything and I was sure the powder wouldn't be as good.  I sure was wrong.

So...am I glad I got my dentures.  Absolutely.  I wouldn't change a thing.  Were they difficult to get used to?  Sometimes they felt awkward.  I had to learn how to pronounce some words all over again and I had to learn to whistle again but I did it and I'm glad. My grandkids still like it when I take my teeth out so keeping them amused must count for something.  For me it was a great decision and I'm glad I did it.  Good luck with yours and don't worry, you'll be able to yell at BMS and your teeth won't fly out.
