Screw-in teeth to hold dentures

Posted: September 27, 2009 11:33 am

I have tried everything you can think of and my lower dentures do not stay...I cannot eat with them on. I can only wear them approx. 1-2 hours a day and after that they hurt so badly. It has gotten to the point where my dentist suggested this form of screw-in type of teeth that the lower denture will somehow latch onto it and help hold them in place. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions. Believe me I have tried EVERYTHING you can think of...besides these screw-in type things. Thanks

Hi I knew a woman who tried the screw in teeth and they hurt so much she had to have them taken out. I to am having alot of trouble with my bottom partial. I did have all my top teeth taken out and they are doing quite well. I keep going back to have the bottoms made more comfortable but so far its been terrible. I have lost alot of weight because of the partial to. but I am hanging in there and hoping for the best. try to talk to other people who have had the screw ones in before you do that I heard its very painful

I,too, have had a very hard time keeping my bottom full denture in, no matter what I use. I have to remove them to eat or drink because they just float out. As a result, I have lost approx. 50lbs. and have become very self-conscious and don't wear them at all anymore. I haven't heard of the procedure you are referring to but am interested in hearing how you make out (should you decide to do it) with the screw-in teeth to hold your bottom denture in. Good luck and keep the rest of us out here posted if you can. Thanks.

From everything I understand, having a bottom denture is much harder to deal with than the top. What about getting an implant? It would give the dentist something to secure the denture to so it can hold better. I just got the upper denture, still can't eat and I'm going to need 2 partials on the bottom. I still have my front 5 teeth on the bottom and that's what my dentist is going to secure the partials to, using a screw in method. I'm probably not too much help, but keep asking. There has to be something that works without causing all the pain! Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear about you having problems with your bottom dentures also. What do we do? Some people are so fortunate and don't have any problems what so ever. Than there are people like you and I and the others who wrote about their terrible discomfort and loss of weight. I have lost approx. 20 pounds because of it all! If you read the other posts on here one of them says she has lost approx. 50 pounds. I wish there were an answer. Please keep me informed if you can and I will you if I find out anything else. Take care of you.

Hi! I am sorry to hear about your terrible problem with your bottom dentures. I am right along side with you and the others as well who replied back on this message board. I have lost atleast 20 pounds myself. My Grandmother is said to have died because of malnutrition due to her bottom dentures not fitting well. Acutally she had problems with both the top and bottom dentures. I thank God that my top dentures are fitting so nicely. Please keep me posted if you hear of anything else. I will keep as much posted as possible if I decide to go along with these screw-in dentures. I'm terribly scared of all of it. I have found out that nutrional drinks...such as Ensure...quite possibly have kept me alive as long as I have been. I drink a lot of them...quite expensive...but I probably would have lost more than 20 pounds so far if I hadn't drank them. You might try them out. Please take care of yourself. Let's all keep eachother posted on all of this.
