I am having a problem speaking with my dentures.
Is this normal and if so how long does it last.

Not sure if you're still having problems with the extraction sites but just in case you might try swishing warm salt water. The salt water helps toughen the gums, remove food particles from extraction sites and will also help bring any bone chips to the surface. Better to get that out of the way now. Hope this helps anyone else thats having this problem.

I just got the rest of my teeth pulled on Friday January 21. Here it is January 26 and still cant wear my bottom ones cause still too sore from the extractions and the stitches. I did go back on Monday and they had to cut my top ones way back cause was too far back it was gagging me. I think their gonna have to take it back a bit more cause I still catch myself trying to gag a bit when try to talk with them in. I cant wear em very long cause they irritate my bottom gum from all the swelling and stitches fromt he extractions. hope they heal soon. Not sure how long it will take to have the stitches in, they irritate me too. When they extracted the bottom ones it left a huge bruise on my face (chin). Any suggestions what I can do to get it to heal faster and not so sore from the extractions? When I had the top ones in after they cut them back a little, I did find myself struggling with my S sounds. Havent tried eating with them yet as I cant wear my bottom ones yet due to the soreness from the extractions. I figure after they have healed then I can put them in. Now my dentist sd if and when I am able to wear them, to put fixodent in them but only in the areas where there were no extractions done, cause dont want the fixodent to get down into the sockets. So if you wear them just put a drop or 2 where there was already missing teeth and has healed over. I didnt have any front ones on top so there and the very back is where I am able to place a drop in the back and a couple in the very front when wearing the tops. Not been able to wear my bottom ones yet so can give any advice on those yet.

This is very true, also if you practice on your own. You will find that you are able to speak much better. Once you have your dentures (or used to wearing them).. try to get them cleaned for approximately 2 hrs, (keep them off).. clean them.. do what you have to do, and wear them again. You will eventually get used to them and be able to do what you can. Get your gums clean, use warm salty water which is best.. and go to your dentist for relining, and adjustments when you feel uncomfortable. Try not to open your mouth too wide when eating. Take small portions of food, eventually you will get used to better things.. adjusting takes a little time.

Hey guys, this is what I'm so afraid of. I'm in resturaunt field. Face to face interaction is a must. I have noticed even now before I get my dentures my speaking is bad due to missing teeth. It can only get better with a whole mouth full of teeth and some practice. I can't wait. Maybe it will allow me to keep my opinions to myself for a change. Imagine that!!

it's only the second day for me wth full upper and lower dentures and i have trouble with only a few words, but fortunately i have friends that i talk to on a daily basis that help me with speaking. also having voice command on my computer and phone helps as well. also, try recording your voice on a daily basis to have a record of your improvement, that will also help you to speak better with the dentures.
