I am having a problem speaking with my dentures.
Is this normal and if so how long does it last.

Read your newspaper or book out-loud, try enunciating your words very precisely, the sound you hear is not what others hear, if possible try recording yourselfl, one can do this on the answering machine or re-record our phone/cell greeting until you like what you hear.. Great excuse for talking to yourself....lol

Dear Mike,
I have had my dentures almost a year now and it takes some getting used too. Just like a person who gets an artificial limb for example. You have to give yourself time to get used to them. Once you begin going to the dentist less often for your liner adjustment you can use Fixodent and the bottom ones will Not move at all. (although my dentist did't suggest the fixodent until almost 6 months after my full dentures were ut in) I was able to talk with my teeth shut just fine, that is what worked for me. It is normal to have trouble speaking and eating at first, the bottom ones float. See if your dentist can give you a thicker liner is My Suggestion. The thicker the liner the better the fit. The top hold suction and don't move much correct, unfortunately the bottom ones are different. You should talk to you dentist about it. Suggest a thicker liner, I did and it worked until I could use fixodent. Hope you get to talking great soon and it was a pleasure giving you advice from My experience.

Hi Dove,
My dentist told me that excessive salivating is natural. He never really gave me an explanation for it but did tell me that it would happen. It has something to do with your real teeth being gone and keeping the dentures moist in your mouth. It is natural. Nothing to worry about! It happens to me mostly when I eat LOL, I have even drewled a time or two. I find it good to keep a napkin close when I am eating and even closer when I'm not. Like a purse or jean pocket. Hope this helps.
