To Smile or Not

Posted: November 19, 2009 11:52 am

I got new dentures on 11-10-09 uppers only.  It is now 11-19-09.  From the day the dentist put in my new smilers, I have said they are to big in front.  The fake gum line above my fake teeth.  When I smile, it shows my fake gum line with my real one.  So I have these beautiful teeth, but can't smile big.  And you can feel the gums pushing out of my skin above my lips.  Like big lumps.  Please someone tell me if this is normal.  The dentist said to work on not smiling so big.  WHAT?  I am a smiley person.  I feel that it should be closer to my real gums.  I could get a dime or nickle between my real gums and the fake ones the first day they put them in.  Please someone tell me what to do.  I'm so unhappy.

your dentist is wrong, they don't fit right. Make him fix them, and don't let him tell you it's normal. It's not

You have a poorly fit set of dentures, not sure what type of surgeon or dentist made your dentures, but most of them don't show the area you are talking about. There are some poorly fit dentures out there. Make sure you select your denture provider and check references out. You also, get what you pay for. Best to pay a little more, rather than be suffering. I got mine a month ago, and they are great.. and these are only my temporaries, I am having the Ivoclar System done..in 2 months.. it is the best in the market..

I would recommend having sextondental.net make you new dentures. They are located in Florence South Carolina and there prices are listed on there website. They are a lot more affordable than other dentists. Good Luck.    Dartpro

PS: It sounds like they need to start over, and make you a whole new set, actually........

Yes; like Sandie says: tell them the set they made you WILL NOT DO!...they obviously did NOT make them right for your face...INSIST that they do! Tell them the flange (gum part) is nnot close enough to your natural gum as far as the fit goes, and it's making your lip bulge out, and also tell them the gum part needs to be higher!! It's not right or fair that you should have to accept poor workmanship....Mysmile
