New Denture Wearer..so many questions/concerns

Posted: February 25, 2010 6:55 pm

Hi! I am 35 and got my dentures this past Monday (2/22). My husband, children and mother have been great! They all tell me how beautiful I am and just keep telling me to smile. I love them but they are really bothering me. I have been back to the dentist 3 times since Monday because I just don't know what to do, how to act. I was told to sleep in them and keep them in as much as possible to get used to them but no one has been clear as to how long? When I went to the dentist today she put adhesive powder under the bottoms to make it less irritating...should I be using this? The dentist says I am clotting like I should be but what's next? How long will the clots be there? When can I brush my gums? I am not really chewing just yet because I am scared. I have dreams that my teeth just fall out!! I don't go back to work until the 1st of March--is this enough time to be off? Will other people know that I got dentures? Am I doing all this worrying for nothing? When I do the warm salt water soaks, how long should I leave my teeth out? Any insight would be great!!

I had to wear mine for 5 days after my teeth were pulled. What a smell they had when I took them out and slimy, I guess from the healing. I rinsed after I ate anything. (which wasn't much, lol) I got a few sores where they were rubbing and my dentist sanded them down in those spots, told me to keep them out unless I needed them to go out and use the salt water rinses. I did them about 4 times a day. I just went back today, the sores healed but they still rub. They say it could take up to six months. I didn't brush my gums for about 2 weeks but when I would rinse, I would rub my tongue over them. The clots will go away in about 2 weeks but don't even worry about them. Just keep rinsing and going back for adjustments. I guess we will all be in a little pain but on the brighter side, we may lose some weight !
