Help..flexible partials or metal reinforced ones?

Posted: March 13, 2010 11:30 pm

I am going to have partial dentures made for my upper and lower teeth. I am trying to decide which ones would be right for me. I am interested in the Flexilytes (from Aspen Dental). These are the heat injected partials without any metal support. I have chosen these over the Flexilytes Combo which contain a metal " bridge" across the back gum line and into the partial itself. My purpose for doing this is because I previously had bridge work and hated the metal in my mouth. It seemed everytime I ate something, I would have to go rinse the food out of my bridgework. It was extremely annoying. Yesterday, at my second consultation about what I wanted to have done, the doctor came in and advised me that because I will have no molars remaining, the flexilyte combo would be better for me. She was saying with the flexibility of the Flexilyte partials, I might run into problems with the teeth possibly twisting and" rising" on the opposite side while i am chewing. She also said some people opted for these and have not had any problems. I really hate to think that the metal ones might be my only option. Does anyone have any advice on this? I am having my impressions done this coming Thursday and would really like to have made a decision by then. Thank you.. Deb

Hi Deb,
I am having the same thing done on Friday (a week from today) for my bottoms. Do you mind telling me which ones you got? I chose the Flexilyte Combo because I thought it felt stronger.
