My name is Kat and I am only 33. I just recently, well 4 days ago now had the last of my 10 original teeth pulled and got full dentures. Most of the problems I was having was from an ex that beat me but thankfully the door to all that got shut when I got these. I am having a really hard time adjusting. Is this normal? It has now been 4 full days and I have yet to eat. I am wondering if once the extraction sites under the plates have healed if it will make it easier for me to want to eat. I can drink but not a lot at one time. Does anyone out there have any helpful tips they can offer to me while I get this all straightened out? I cry daily even though I am excited again to smile at my son. Any and all advice is appreciated...

Hi Kat! I am 31 and just got full uppers and a partial lower today. I feel just like you. While I am grateful to have them, I am so depressed. I can't stand to leave them in longer than a few minutes because I gag on them. I took them out earlier just so I could eat something. Drinking something with them in hasn't even happened yet because of the gagging.

I knew it wasn't going to be easy. My dentist pulled my teeth in January 2010 and let them fully heal before making my dentures. So I have been almost 7 months with no teeth, except for the bottom ones that could be didn't have to be pulled. 2 months after the extraction, I had to go back in so they could surgically shave down some of the bone on my gums. It has been a very long process.

I am a School Bus Driver, so I have had to work 5 months with no teeth. It is very depressing. I only wish that I had found this site sooner.

I have been wearibg full dentures for close to 10 years. I am middle aged. My teeth fell out because of a rather rare neurological disorder. I also smoke. Until recently, I was biting on my cigarettes. Because of this, I now need implants, because my gums are shrinking. My dentist says that unless I get the implants; I will slowly lose my ability to eat. Because of financial problems, he is doing my mouth for free. I have NEVER  gotten used to the dentures. I tend to eat only soft food. Although everyone has told me that the teeth look nice, I think I look awful.

Although I SHOULD be giving advice; I need it!

Thank you

HI Kat, First let me say I am glad you got away from the person who caused you to have to go through this at such a young age. Don't feel like you're alone out there. I thought I would die when last year Oct30th I had to have my teeth pulled and have a denture on top and a partial on the bottom ( I wished I would have had full dentures) I had so many problems for about 4to 5 months I had stitches. I would not let anybody see me without my teeth. I thought it was the end of the world, I really did. Everyone told me to give it a year....that didn't make it any easier for me!!! I cried a lot!!! I am now feeling better about them but, I'm not completely happy as naturally I miss my real teeth. My teeth look good but eating just isn't the same...again people tell me that it'll get easier. You are NOT alone and it will get easier. (for me) it's still rough. But I know it will be better in time. I do get a lot of compliments on my teeth..although I still feel self conscious. If you would like to E Mail me my address is "Cindeesue1222ataolcom" Good luck just hang in there nobody was as bad as me when I got mine.......everyone let me know about it. Good Luck, Cindee
