New here and to having dentures

Posted: June 25, 2010 11:53 am

Hi everyone. I had all of my top teeth pulled in January 2010 and just got my dentures today. I am gagging something fierce. The dentist took some off of the back, but I still gag. I can't even begin to practice talking or eating because I can't keep them in long enough to get past the gagging. I also have a partial on the bottom and am having no issues with it. How can I learn to get past the gagging with the top ones?

Anyone have any suggestions?

congrats to you on the new teeth!!! I had a full set installed in Oct. 2009.  Yah...11 teeth pulled in the last visit and the new set installed within minutes.  Fortunatlly...no gagging here but i know from my braces experience that you just have to put in your mind that it is what it is and ignore the gagging and "just eat!!!!"  The most important thing at this point is to "JUST EAT"...ignore the gag.  I don't know you but if you can go through the "new teeth"experience, then you can get through the "gag".  Let me know how you are.

what has worked for me, is when i feel like im going to gag, I press my tongue to the top plate, and try and flatten it out up there. I dont know why it works, but it usually does the trick! Good luck. Tracy612
