Is it even possible to keep food from getting under my dentures??

Posted: July 22, 2010 2:11 pm

I'm about a month into a full set of new dentures at 40 yrs old.  Had the top plate for over a month, and the bottom plate for just over 3 weeks now.

I'm having sooo much trouble with food getting underneath my dentures!  I've tried soo many different kinds, and different brands.  I've used the recommended amount, from dabbing on a "spot" of adhesive here and there, to actually putting a "line" of adhesive all the way around the perimeter and nothing works. I can feel food in there, and it causes the dentures to eventually lift up.  I just had them adjusted this week again, and a new liner put in both of them, so I dont need that done.  I find myself avoiding eating at every cost because i HATE the feeling of food around the creases and underneath. Is there something I'm doing wrong with the adhesive? All these commercials and companies claim that their adhesive keeps food out.  I have to take my dentures out, clean them and reapply adhesive almost 3 times a day.  they say not to use so much taht it oozes out the sides, but I dont know any other way to keep the food out -------any ideas or tips?? Thanks so much!

Hmm, I've honestly not had any trouble with that just yet. I use Fixodent powder. Apparently my dentist wants me to upgrade to paste at some point, but I don't see the point so long as this keeps working. I might try it after I use all of this up.

My only guess would be that maybe the denture's not snug enough, to your palette or your gums, but if you're getting sore spots from the rubbing, I don't see how that could be.
