Silly Question

Posted: January 14, 2011 6:09 pm

Hi...Just got my five upper teeth extracted today and my upper denture put in...Taking the pain med...I know I need to keep the dentures in 24 hours and then take them out for a while, rinse the mouth and put them back in....Now...my silly questions, what is the best way to take the denture out and also what about getting it back in....the oral surgeon sort of explained but hey, I was knocked out prior to that so I didn't comprehend!!  I think I'm getting nervous about this and there is probably nothing to it...But...I'm thinking its going to hurt a bit too...

Any advise and tips would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I have uppers, and a friend told me I did not have to remove them at night.  Is that true?

I was lucky.  I did not have stitches however I had Immediates and remember that even when the dentist told me to wear my dentures I did bleed alot.

Thanks for the reply...It was uplifting!!! I took them out this am just for a little bit...did the salt water rinse and put them back in..... I rested most of the day and just took them out again for a little while...Need to do it to get the "nasty" stuff out....I do like how the smile is starting to look...I still have alot of swelling but that will take time too... Thanks for your support...It is just a new adventure in life!  Have a great day!

do you have stitches? I heard that stitches made it worse. but dont worry it may hurt a little bit coming out and going in. Just take a big deep breath while doing both.  Salt water is a life savor for the first two weeks. and remember it is going to take a lot of getting used to.  and no matter how bad you want to take them out and leave then out dont. it gets better every day you may not notice the sutlty of it but it happens. write in a jornal every day so you can refect back to problems you had that day..if you have a particularly bad day read the journal or sign on to this website it helps me alot to know i am not the only one with dentures. i have had my uppers for 6 months and it has been an adventure for sure but dont give up. look in the mirror and smile it makes it all worth it...good luck
