reline a denture

Posted: December 3, 2009 6:18 pm

I got a new lower denture (1st time) in Mexico and the Dentist is no longer, I have a small high spot on my denture that rubs. Can I get some very fine sandpaper and sand it myself with no harm to the denture?

Yes, like Angcross said; I did the same thing when my 2 free adjustments were used up...dentists are expensive!!! I also used emory boards as the work very well. Sandpaper can be used as well if you need to sand a rounded space (roll sandpaper into a very tiny tube-shape).I even made a couple of the spots the dentist adjusted feel even better...after all, it's our mouth, after all......just be careful not to oversand, by sanding a bit, then trying back in mouth; even several times till it finally feels just right....Good luck, Mysmile

There is another option.  Using sandpaper can be done, but it doesnt cut or abrade evenly, and can cause more problems because the acrylic has more uneven ridges which will irritate the gum.
