Except for the first night my dentist said to not wear the dentures 24/7. That it is important that the gum tissue be given time to "rest". And that is the way I am doing it. Every night before bed I remove the dentures, brush them and put them in an overnight soaking solution. Then put them back in the next morning. Its been a little over three weeks now and I can eat some firmer food but there is still a little further to go before the gums have healed enought to try steak. But I have a nice T-bone in the freezer just waiting for me.

I had to laugh.. this is my second day. I was just sitting here trying to convince myself to go take them out, clean them, rinse my mouth and go to bed. The pain of the removal and then later, the replacing of the teeth in my mouth instills a hesitation in me. BUT I do want this to heal soon and the soreness to go away. I am told that keeping it all clean and rinsing with warm salt water a couple of times a day is a good way to help the healing.
I laughed because my own declaration was that as soon as the surgery healed and the soreness abated, I was going to have that steak I have craved for a couple of years but could never have chewed. I have a Rib Steak all stashed for ME.. LOL. I can see, though that learning to eat with these is going to be an uphill slope. I just tried a bit of chunky chicken soup and discovered that I have to re-learn how to chew. Sigh. Soreness from the stitches and surgery make eating a real joy. Thanks to you all for reminding me that I am not alone, and others have ideas for how to make it easier.

I just found this site and am proud to join you here. I have had my top denture for three days today. the second night my wife told me I had to take them out and rince my mouth and brush the denture. Oh my word, I pulled and pulled and could not get them out. The suction was so tight. It hurt after I tore it out. But the pain was nothing like when I had my broken teeth.
It hurts to take them out but you have to do it so that it will heal faster. You may get an infection from not cleaning your mouth. I have all the same problems as you all, talking funny, mouth feels swollen still, pain when bite down, but....my mouth tastes cleaner then prior. I am glad that I have done this.
I am only 34. My kids go to the dentist often and I force them to brush twice a day.

I am three weeks post-op with immediate dentures placed, now. I waited three days before I was brave enough to pull the immediates out and clean them and rinse my mouth. My mouth tasted like what cow manure smells like --even my dog would turn his head away and not kiss me *lol*and I just let my husband peck me on the top of the head when he left for work. Anyway, the hardest thing for me was putting the dentures back in after rinsing --*ouch*, but after a week I was soaking the dentures and brushing my tongue and top of my mouth with toothpaste just to get that rotten taste and slime to a minimum. Hardly had any pain except for putting the dentures back in and after seeing stars for about 30 seconds each time because it really hurt, I was fine. Now, three weeks, later --I LOVE my dentures. I smile all the time. My confidence is improved 100%. --and my breath is fresh --finally! That was so gross...
And, as for my kids? I had them in the dentist office when they were just babies and they kept every dental appointment until they were old enough to leave home and be on their own. I never wanted them to suffer like I did all my life with my teeth nor have the terror I felt whenever I had to go to the dentist.

I am on my second day with dentures. I'm worried that if I take them out overnight, my gums will be too swollen to put the dentures back on in the morning. Am I crazy?

No your not crazy, it's fearful what do I do ?. I am in my 9th day of new dentures. I received no post info after the the first two weeks. I didn't know what was going to take place in the healing process. Thank God for this site, it has helped me relize that there are others out there that share the same feelings and pains of new dentures.
