I had 17 teeth extracted  and dentures made (upper and lowers) on April 6, 2010 and I have very little pain on Apr. 10. I am already eating some hard foods carefully. Sexton Dental in Florence S.C. extracted the teeth and made tempory dentures. It was only $675.00 for upper and lower temp. dentures.  There website is www.sextondental.net

When I was sitting waiting for the extractions, which I wasn't happy about being a woman, I recalled a ruined vacation due to a dental abscess. Then I recalled all the other ruined occasions from abscesses, broken fillings, and all of the money spent on trying to look 1/2-way human and not being satisfied with my smile ever! I just got my lowers done Monday 5/10, and am adjusting. It is a little uncomfortable, but there's nothing quite like the pain of healing versus abscess pain! At least with denture discomfort you can take Motrin or Tylenol and actually feel better, but not so easy to do with an abscess that requires antibiotics, root canal, and all the other trappings of it. I am not sorry that I lost those teeth; they were not good to me, and any pain adjusting to dentures is far less severe than what toothaches were doing to my life.

My husband & I went to Mexico.. I already had an upper.. for many years.  I had 6 lower teeth left with a bridge.  The dentist was Wonderful she pulled the 6 lower teeth. The next morning I was in having the new top and bottom dentures put in.   Like someone else said.. the pain is less than having tooth aches, infections, rootcanals.

I am adjusting to the bottom denture, I have been eating soft food..Chicken, noodles, eggs, even some crackers and chips.  It takes a little practice, take smaller bites.. chew well, learn to use your tongue.

Your tongue an muscles in your mouth will try to push out the denture (especially the bottom one). so try to relax your jaw, practice saying the alphabet .  Your tongue will shrink some.. since it had more space before you had the dentures in.  It takes pactience and practice, but now I can smile again .:)

So you have to buy temp. dentures and then buy permanent dentures? How much did it cost to have your teeth pulled?

2500.00 isn't all bad, even with dental ins. having my teeth pulled cost a little over 7000.00 and my upper and lower dentures cost over 5000.00, I really don't know why the dentures cost so much, I have family in NB and PA who have dentures and they cost less than 1000.00 for a full set. some say it's because I live in Alaska and everything cost more! good luck in getting the money, I will have my dentures at the end of this month and I can't wait, I know it will be a learning process adjusting to them, but I really miss not be able to chew!!!
