I am 73 y/o & have had dentures since age 25. Except for the first week or so I have worn my dentures 24/7. Except of course when cleaning them. I brush them real good while inside my mouth, take them out & brush them real good while outside my mouth. First set lasted for 23 years, & 2nd set from 1955 to now.

wow i just found this site and its been 3days since i had my top dentures put in. it is so strange, but you have to weght it out - i only had 8 teeth on top the 2 front teeth were caps i was 15 yrs old (i knock them out by falling face first on the street-trippin over my own feet - wearing filpflops) anyway the two next to them went bad (darken no enamel) - and craked and broke. the other 4 were ok - but my dentist suggested taking them all out and put a denture (im 51 yrs old) by the way. He said my bone was deteroriating. It took me 6months to finally let him do this. YES im happy cause i can SMILE again without covering up my mouth - and they fell pretty good - buttttt i cannot talk like i use to - by the way i talk for a living im a call center reservationist - i talked all day & work 40hrs a week. im not sore like somethings im reading and they stay in - im just affarid to eat to much so im just taking it easy - my dentist said to leave in 24\7 but to take out at least 3x aday to brush and rinse. Besides not talking to good the roof of my mouth were i guess u would call fake gum feels thick and weird - i dont think i will ever get use to it - that is were my tongue goes alot and cause me not to talk like i use to... question will i ever talk normal in the months or years to come???

I got all of my upper teeth pulled and an immediate denture put in about five days ago now. And that's how I plan on doing it: keeping them in as much as possible and taking them out simply to clean them. The one time I took them out with the intention of letting them soak in the cup, my tongue kept going to the roof of my mouth and feeling where it had been ravaged. In the end I had to hold my tongue down until I could get done cleaning them and stick them back in. It's also the first time I had even a single tooth extracted, so I guess I can't really blame my OCD for going nuts in this regard.
