I had my back teeth removed a few months ago. On January 13, I had the front removed and "temporary immediate dentures were placed in. I've kept my new "temporary immediate dentures" in day and night until last night,,,so that would be for 6 days i kept them in (except for ten minute intervals to rinse them). The dentist told me to add pressure , i guess to have the gums form to these foreign objects and not shrink therefore not being able to use them . But , I don't know,,,it feels like i'm abusing my gums. I haven't really even tried to chew with them,,,just eating stuff I can slither down my throat. It's a very odd feeling having this big plastic thing in my mouth. I didn't have implants yet for the bottoms, but am supposed to have two implants in about 8-12 weeks. Is it possible that the "flange" part of the lowers are too deep?kinda like pressing down into the bottom of my mouth (the roof part ,,but of the bottom). Or is it just too soon to know if the fit is right because it is only one week? I dread taking them out ,,LOVE when they are out,,,,DREAD putting them back in. Anybody else having this same question and feeling? Do I just need time? or Do i need to go to the dentist to see if there should be an adjustment. Now if the dentist doesn't have a lab on site,,,,does she have to send it out? does she do it herself? or do I need to go to the lab. As to this site, I found it helpful as to the placement of the adhesive and its other suggestions. thanks June

I have had upper flipper/dentures since I was 10 due to a accident so I was comfortable with those but I recently got lower dentures on april 9th and now it's just killing me as I have gone back 4 times in 2 weeks to get adjustments as it sits on my tongue muscle and hurts. I have yet to chew anything because I dont have a bite the meets on both sides and my dentist said it's because I am still swollen. I have to take them out to eat anything and to swallow properly cause when they are in I cant move my tongue right. Should I go back and tell him he has to fix this or what? patti

I know exactly what you mean. I have lived without teeth for about 5 years. Finally on my birthday 4/15/10, I completed my appts. with a local Dental facility that does everything right there on-site. This was a great advantage. My uppers took about 3 weeks to not get anymore sore spots. I have never had to use adhesive on my uppers. The lowers, however, have been a real challenge. I have had them re-adjusted 4 times now. I have gagged several times, pills are a challenge to swallow ( hold your head up). The swollen tongue & neck have been a problem, relearning to talk & eat. I think one more adjustment & I'll be there. I have to use Fixodent to be able to eat anything solid. I think tongue swelling comes from the inner part of the lower denture being too long or deep into the mouth. The tongue has to stretch too far to talk & after a whole day it's very painful. Eating smaller bites & alternating sides with your back teeth all helps. I even look at myself in the mirror when I eat to practice. Sounds funny, but it helps.
