Common Questions
Can adhesives improve my denture fit?
Yes. There are a number of published clinical studies showing that denture adhesives actually improve the performance of properly fitting dentures. Using denture adhesives might help reduce irritation and sore spots caused by denture rub. Denture adhesive is not a substitute for poorly fitting dentures. See your dentist or prosthodontist regularly to ensure properly fitting dentures, as poorly fitting dentures may impair health. It is important to use Fixodent as directed. There is no gain in hold from using more adhesive than directed. There is no additional hold benefit by applying more adhesive than directed. Excessive and prolonged zinc intake is reported to be associated with serious health problems. Consult a doctor is using other products containing zinc.
How does Fixodent adhesive cream work?
When you use Fixodent adhesive cream, the natural moisture in your mouth changes the soft cream into an elastic-like membrane that helps hold your dentures tight, so you can bite harder and eat more naturally.
How does Fixodent adhesive powder work?
Fixodent adhesive powder provides a firm, comfortable hold for dentures by forming a thin, powerful seal on the denture. Fixodent adhesive powder increases biting force, might help to reduce tissue irritation, and reduces social embarrassment from loose dentures.
How long will my tube of Fixodent denture adhesive cream last?
The directions on the product packaging will guide you as to how long a tube of Fixodent should last. Write the date of package opening on the carton label under the "important" statement or a calendar. The longevity will vary depending on the size of the tube of Fixodent you are using. For example a 2.4 oz tube of Fixodent should last at least 7 to 8 weeks, while a 1.4 oz tube should last at least 4 to 5 weeks. This product should not be used more than once a day.
How long does the hold last?
The hold depends on the person, but Fixodent is formulated to last all day.
What is the shelf life of Fixodent denture adhesives?
Average shelf life is three years when stored at room temperature.
Is there a small purse or travel-size Fixodent available?
Fixodent Plus Gum Care to go is available in convenient travel-size tubes at many local retailers.
What to do if the Fixodent tube is clogged / does not come out of the tube? (tube hardening)
Generally, hardening occurs in your Fixodent tube due to moisture coming in contact with the cream. Any moisture around the cap area or inside the tube could cause the product to harden over time, making it difficult to squeeze. To help prevent this, store Fixodent in a cool, dry place and keep the nozzle and cap dry. To further prevent moisture from getting into the cap or tube, don’t run the tube under the faucet to clean the cap or leave it on the countertop with the cap off. We suggest always applying the Fixodent cream to clean, dry dentures.
Do all dentures need adhesive?
If your dentures are well fitted, they should stay securely in place by themselves and you can wear them comfortably without denture adhesive. However denture adhesive can improve the retention and stability of your dentures, making you feel more confident and secure while wearing them. Not only that, but Fixodent denture adhesive also has other benefits. Our Breath Bacteria Shield Technology helps protect against bad breath bacterial growth and also our food seal to keep food particles out of the area between your denture and gums. By using Fixodent, you don't just get a secure fit but you can also help protect the gums and keep your breath fresh.

How do I remove my dentures?
As the Fixodent denture adhesive absorbs excess water, the hold will loosen. Several techniques may help you break the seal between the adhesive and the gum tissue:
For dentures of any type, swish your mouth with warm water or a mouthwash such as Crest® Pro-Health™. For the lower denture, pull gently while applying a rocking motion. For the upper denture, removal may be more difficult due to more surface area. Place your thumb against the front teeth and press upward and outward toward your nose. If you do not have success with these techniques and are uncomfortable leaving your dentures in overnight, you can seek assistance in a hospital emergency room or a 24-hour dental service.
CAUTION: To avoid injury, do not use any object except your fingers (not your fingernails) to pry the dentures loose.
How do I remove adhesive residue?
To remove adhesive residue from your dentures, use a denture cleanser such as Fixodent Antibacterial Denture Cleanser with Scope Ingredients. To remove adhesive residue from your mouth, gums, tongue, and palate, brush the roof of your mouth and gums with a soft-bristled toothbrush, toothpaste such as Crest, and comfortably hot water.
